If you are a bad driver you better pay your property taxes
Sunday, August 01, 2010
I have been trying to find out the name of the driver that I have been trying to remove from our roads (Utah Arches plate #666-VTN) and after several years of searching I now know his first and last name! I typed his address into Google and found out he is delinquent on his Weber County Property taxes for his house. Looks like violating traffic laws aren't the only laws he disobeys. The last time I saw his truck last week, I noticed his license plate sticker expires this month. It looks like despite the fact he works for the IRS, he feels he doesn't need to pay property taxes to Weber County or the Utah State Tax Commission. I wonder if he even pays his income taxes! Even though I am pissed that he doesn't pay his taxes I am glad that Weber County listed his property as delinquent so I could find him. I just typed in his address and up came the notice that he was delinquent. I typed his name into Google and determined that he graduated from Bonneville High School in 1989 and Weber State "University" in 2000. It looks like people who are retarded are rewarded more than a drivers license. This person was able to graduate from high school and college. Of course most retards take special ed classes that are easy to pass so this would explain how he can manage to graduate from both high school and college. Maybe he should consider not only following traffic regulations but paying his taxes!

Attention Utah Motorists!
Tuesday, July 27, 2010
For all you people who nearly hit motorcyclists and bicyclists because "you can't see them". Please learn how to drive. For the retards who cannot see a motorcycle that is behind their truck or SUV, ADJUST YOUR REAR VIEW MIRRORS!!!! IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY BE SEE BEHIND YOU!!! If you are being tailgated by a vehicle (including a motorcycle), most likely they want to get around you because you are going to slow in the left lane. Either move to the right lane using your turn signals (MAKE SURE THE VEHICLE DOESN'T HAVE THEIR SIGNAL ON AND HAS PLANS TO PASS YOU IN THE RIGHT LANE). I cannot believe how many Utah motorists are so ignorant. Please look out for motorcycles and realize that a motorcycle can maneuver and accelerate much faster than your car so don't be surprised and honk when the motorcycle down the street is alongside you and you are made at them when you are the one who almost hit them. If you people would start looking out for motorcyclists, the roads would be a lot safer. Instead you people insist that motorcyclists are the cause of you failure to see them. Same thing for bicycles. A cyclist has the same rights to the road as you do and most of you recklessly pass bicyclists nearly hitting them and honk and please remember that bicyclists can legally pull into a crosswalk and YOU MUST YIELD TO THEM LIKE A PEDESTRIAN! This summer has been the worst. With the warm weather, you can expect to see bicycles and motorcycles out just as much as you can expect slippery roads in the winter during a snowstorm. Maybe the state should revoke licenses to people who don't yield to bicyclists and motorcyclists because the "can't see them".

Use headlights in the rain
Tuesday, May 25, 2010
When it is raining outside especially during the morning and early evening hours it is a good idea to turn on your headlights and in most states it is the law. On my drive to work, I only saw 5 cars with their headlights on for the rain! I noticed that a lot of them probably had cars with daytime running lamps that automatically turn on at night but they failed to turn on for the rain storm. If you have a GM car, the only lights that will turn on is your parking lights which isn't sufficient. Don't rely on the daytime running lamp sensors to automatically turn on your lights at night or any other time you are required to use them. For the people who feel they don't need to use their headlights when there is low visibility remember that just because you can see in the dark doesn't mean other drivers can see in the dark. Please use you headlights and if your car is equipped with some kind of daytime running lamp sensor that automatically turns your lights on, make sure it really turns on your lights. I've seen a lot of these sensors fail and their cars driving around without lights.

Utah drivers never remember how to drive.
Tuesday, April 06, 2010
Today Utah had a major snowstorm which isn't a surprise since we have had snow as late as June. The morning commute was horrible. Even though it has snowed a few weeks before and we were predicted to get nearly a foot of snow, Utah drivers forgot how to drive in snow. First there was a car who only had a small area of her windshield cleared. As she was driving along the highway the snow on the hood of her car came off her hood and covered her front window and she nearly caused an accident as she slammed on the brakes in the middle of a major highway (because she couldn't see where she was going) that was merged to one lane because of construction. She got out, cleared to clear the snow off her front windows leaving her side and rear windows covered with snow. Why didn't she just clear the snow off her car (including all the windows as well as front hood and roof) before she started driving? Luckily she didn't need to make a lane change or she wouldn't be able to see if there was a car alongside her. Then there were the usual drivers who decided that it is safe to driver 65 MPH and veer back and forth to avoid all the people who decided that 65 MPH is too fast and riding the tails of people trying to get them to drive faster. I saw plenty of vehicles off the road, wrecks, and idiots who treated the roads as if it were 80 degrees instead of 30 degrees outside. It was as if Utahns have never seen a snow storm before! To top it off there were the usual drivers who don't turn on their headlights during the morning hours when you are supposed to have your lights on till 30 minutes after sunrise and during bad weather such as a snowstorm. Just because you can see in the dark doesn't mean others can see your car in the dark. What is the deal? Utahns just forget how to drive in the snow even if it snowed a couple days ago.
Later today, the sun came out and the road conditions improved but there were some traffic lights that were out and Utahns forgot how to treat a non-functioning traffic light. They also forgot what is considered a non-functioning traffic light. A traffic light that is flashing yellow for one direction and red for another isn't considered a non-functioning traffic light which means traffic that is approaching the flashing yellow lights may proceed without stopping, it is not to be treated as a four way stop unless there are flashing red lights in all directions or the traffic light is completely out. Even when people did treat non-functioning traffic lights as 4-way stops, people forgot that if a car arrives before they do or you arrive at the same time as the car to the right of you, the other car has the right of way. How can Utahns forget about winter driving? They had plenty of warnings that a snow storm was coming and you should be prepared for snow because the weather in Utah can change very quickly.

Tailgaiting
Tuesday, September 01, 2009
Hello Utah, I visited your
beautiful state a while back. Roads are great, and drivers are mostly
polite, but I have to ask, what's with the tailgaiting?
I come from Idaho, where speeding laws are enforced strictly, but I try
to follow local customs when I'm traveling. When I'm somewhere like
Salt Lake (or Portland, OR) where people drive faster, I keep up with
the cars in the slow lane, and pass the slow trucks.
In most places, people will tailgate slow drivers in the fast lanes,
and that is to be expected. In Utah, it seems that everyone tailgates,
regardless of which lane they are in. Being unable to go any faster
than a vehicle in front of me, I don't understand why even the largest,
hardest to stop vehicles (including semis, for heaven's sake) won't
ever leave more than 2 car lengths at any speed, even when I'm in the
slow lane and every other lane is open!
Tailgating is such a habit everywhere in Utah that I drove, that I was
in a construction zone on a highway, where there was only one lane
open, and I saw a car coming up behind me. When I noticed that it had
a California plate, I involuntarily thought to myself "oh thank god!"
Now, Californian's idea of a reasonable following distance is close by
almost anyone else's standards, but in Utah I was extremely thankful
for the extra breathing room that 3-4 total car lengths gave me at 60
MPH in a construction zone.
I'm also surprised that there aren't more people taking advantage of your tailgating habits with a quick tap on the brakes, a scream of "ow my neck",
and a phone call to a personal injury lawyer! Remember folks, a
rear-end collision is likely to be seen as YOUR FAULT in a lawsuit.
It seemed like it was intentional rudeness in many cases. Big SUV drivers seem to feel powerful threatening my life in my compact car by getting right on my bumper. It's not because they needed to pass - either there were open lanes or frequent passing zones and when people passed they didn't go even 5 MPH faster than I was going.
Being tailgated makes driving more stressful and less safe. If a situation arises - like an animal or child darting into the road, or some other obstruction - having another vehicle so close behind eliminates the option of hard braking. Swerving is also not usually an option because either there is traffic in all lanes or construction barriers limiting lane width to about 8.5 feet. The only option left would be to hit whatever gets in the way.
Would you ask people in Utah to please consider leaving at least 1-2 more car lengths (for a total of 2-4) when there isn't any specific reason for tailgating? Maybe then I wouldn't consider all of Utah to have the 2nd worst drivers I've encountered. (#1 is Portland, OR, in case you're wondering.)

Please clear snow and ice off ALL windows!
Friday, March 27, 2009
It amazes me how many times I see drivers who have only cleared their windshield or have only cleared a tiny peephole to see where they are going. Every time it snows, I see several drivers who never cleared their side or rear windows. How to they expect to see traffic behind them and on their sides when ice and snow is blocking their view? I've been nearly hit and have seen other drivers nearly get hit by these people. When your side and rear windows are covered, you cannot see if any cars are in the other lane when making a lane change nor can you determine if the car behind you is planning to change lanes to pass you. You are driving with a hugh blind spot. Please, when it snows outside, clear your windows so you can see. It's dangerous enough driving on slick roads to worry if the driver in front of you who has most of their windows covered with snow can see your car.

If someone grants you right of way, proceed!
Tuesday, January 20, 2009
I nearly got killed when a retarded driver nearly hit me. It all started at a stop sign. We both arrived at the same time and I was on the right. I decided that since this driver has a habit of not yielding the right of way to other motorists, I will allow him to go. I signalled with my hand that he can safely go and he just sat there and honked his horn. Finally I decided to go and at the same time, this driver decided that he will no longer yield the right of way to me. I was barely able to avoid a deadly accident with him. The point I want to make is if another driver waves his hand to signal you to proceed through the intersection, PROCEED. DO NOT SIT THERE AND HONK! IF YOU ARE GOING TO INSIST ON THE RIGHT OF WAY OF SOMEONE ELSE, DO NOT CHANGE YOUR MIND! IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO MAKE AN ABRUPT DECISION TO YIELD TO SOMEONE THEN PULL THROUGH THE INTERSECTION.

Please look at car behind you BEFORE changing lanes!
Tuesday, November 25, 2008
I have noticed a lot of Utah drivers who simply do not care when making lane changes. My son was behind a car that was going 10 MPH below the speed limit in the left hand lane. He patiently waited for the driver to change lanes but the pickup truck never did even though the left lane is the passing lane and it is illegal in Utah for you to go 10 MPH below the posted speed limit and block traffic. My son gets impatient when a driver insists on going slow in the fast lane and unfortunately started to talgate this driver. This appearantly upset the other driver because as soon as my son turned on his right turn signal and pulled to the right lane to pass the driver of the pickup made a lane change and forced my son off road to avoid. My son honked and when I was alongside driver (I was initially behind my son) I honked and the driver shrugged his shoulders as if he had no idea what he did wrong. Long story short, he pulled into the grocery story parking lot and I confronted him asking him why he tried to purposely hit my son. He claims that he "did not realize" my son was going to pull into right lane to pass him. I asked him if he even saw that my son signalled for the lane change and he said that he "could not see the front of his car" because my son was tailgating. I told him that that doesn't make any sense and that he should look in his rearview mirrors more often and check to see if the person behind him is making a lane change before attempting to make a lane change. Could everyone please check their rearview mirrors BEFORE making a lane change? If the car behind you is tailgating, they are probably planning to pull into right lane to pass as soon as they can safely do so. Look in your rearview mirror and check and see if their right turn signal is on, if so, DO NOT change lanes! Another way to avoid this is to pull into right hand lane as soon as possible if a car is going faster than you. As it clearly states in Utah law, slower traffic keep right.

Impolite Drivers
Wednesday, July 23, 2008
The other day I was on my way to work and was stopped at a red light when I noticed a car approaching me from behind with another car behind him at a distance flashing his headlights at him. As soon as they came to a stop behind me and another car the driver of the car who was getting flashed at made an obscene jesture to the driver in the other car. The driver of the car who flashed his headlights at him yelled some obscenities at the driver and the driver flipped him off two more times. How inconsiderate! He has no idea why this driver flashed his headlights at him. Maybe he had a broken taillight, something is wrong with his vehicle such as a gas leak, or something else that this driver wanted to advise him about. This driver automatically decided that nobody flashes their lights at him and if someone has the nerve to do it, he will flip them off. Unfortunately I was involved in this situation as the driver who was being flashed at got angry and as soon as the light turned green he nearly rear-ended the motorcycle behind me. This driver continued to drive recklessly placing me and other drivers at risk. The best thing to do if someone is flashing their headlights at you is to pull over and see what they want. Most likely they want to advise you about something. Most importantly, do not flip off someone who is flashing their headlights at you. It is rude and inconsiderate and could result in road rage. If you did something to upset this driver, apologize. Flipping them off only makes them more upset with you. Also, do not take out your frustration on other drivers and observe traffic laws.

hit and run monroe & 2nd street (north street)
Tuesday, April 29, 2008
In ogden, utah on 2nd street and monroe blvd, I am a very good and careful driver. I was at the 4 way stop at this address and it was my turn to go, next thing I know the lady that was stopped just seconds after I did thought it was her turn I assume, next thing I know is that she is hoinking at me, she was next to me in oncoming traffic's left turn lane for traffic heading north but turning to the west, and the witness who came forward was in that lane to turn left, she almost hit him in the process of all of this. So I stopped and looked at her like I had the right of way what the hell are you doing? I turn forward to start accelerating and she drove her tan yukon into my tan 3 qtr ton suburban, on the driver side back corner just behind the tire, and then she floored it, I didn't even stop to see the damage I just wanted to get her plates so I could report it as a hit and run to the police. The partial plates I have are A25 for the first three and a letter "N" in the last three digits/letters. I have filed a report on April 29, 2008 and about 8:30 am, I have a witness to all of this that has given me his information, thank goodness for honest people. This lady is obviously not one!!!! I had 7 kids in the car with me, 3 that I was getting taking to drop of at school at hillcrest, I baby sit 3 kids, and I have my four. I am so irritated at people (woman) who just think they own the road and do whatever they want, and think that it won't affect anyone. Well guess what lady whoever you are this will come back to you, so get off your high horse, and fess up to what you did, on purpose. Just because you assume you thought you were first to go wrong, the cops even said that I had the right of way! SO THERE! Everyone who lives in the ogden area, monroe blvd and 2nd to monroe to 7th street that is where I lost her, so be on the lookout for this crazy lady. SHe would have damage on her front end I am not sure which side so be on the look out if you see anything let me know so I can report it to the police to put on my case. The hit and run cop is going to investigate and hopefully find something soon. jk

Need Your Help...looking for a late 1990s or early 2000s Ford vehicle, possibly a Mustang, Focus or Contour, with front-end damage.
Sunday, December 02, 2007
Area police are searching for a car that struck and killed a 15-year-old girl attempting to cross Interstate 15 late Saturday.
Chelsea Lanae Smith, of Layton, died after she and another 15-year-old girl tried to cross the freeway from the west side of the Layton Hills Mall just before 11 p.m., according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
As Smith attempted to cross, a dark blue passenger car slammed into her. Initial reports said she was then struck by another car, but the UHP said today that wasn't the case.
The driver didn't stop. Based on evidence left at the scene, investigators believe they are looking for a late 1990s or early 2000s Ford vehicle, possibly a Mustang, Focus or Contour, with front-end damage, UHP Sgt. Shane Nordfelt said at news conference today.
Smith suffered head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene, UHP said. A section of I-15 southbound was closed for about two hours while UHP investigated the incident.

Couldn't get plate numbers but I can describe incident
Friday, October 05, 2007
Today at 3:30 PM I witnessed an incident that I have never seen before. I was on Washington heading SB and approached the intersection of the Adams Ave Pky while light turned red. As I was waiting for a green light watching traffic on Adams Pky There was a silver Chrysler attempting to go straight SB through Adams Pky and was forced to slam on his brakes as not one car but a bunch of cars made a left turn in front of him even though he had right-of-way. There were probably a total of 6 cars who turned in front of him and a School Bus from the Weber County School District. I would like to have wired these drivers but since I was in a lane where I couldn't see the front or back, I couldn't get plate numbers. I also want to award the driver of a Black Ford Mustang who decided to stop and yield so this driver could go on his way. I was very surprised that so many drivers decided not to yield to this guy including a School Bus driver who we trust to drive our kids to and from school safely!
